Star wars age of rebellion review2/1/2024 ![]() WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: Age of Rebellion - Darth Vader from Greg Pak, Ramon Bachs, Stephane Paitreau and Travis Lanham, on sale now. Buffagni’s art sells the adventures completely, capturing all of the things that make Star Wars great: imaginative set pieces, striking character design, and quick action. Marvels latest Star Wars: Age of Rebellion one-shot offers insight into what would end up becoming Darth Vaders greatest test. It shows the precursor of the character that we see in The Empire Strikes Back and captures familiar emotions. It’s a simple adventure that showcases the character when slightly less jaded. As Lobot informs Lando that there’s not nearly enough money to make ends meet, Lando gets solicited for a particular job which takes up the bulk of the issue. Battles and fleet movement are a cleverly balanced cat-and-mouse where a leader must be present to pull the forces to a system but once there - they cant leave. Consisting of 4 one-shots, plus an additional Special issue that includes short stories for IG-88, Yoda, and the pairing of Biggs Darklighter and Jek Porkins, the stories in Villains. Above all else, Lando is still a daring space rogue, and it wouldn’t be a Star Wars comic if someone wasn’t doing daring space rogue things. And thankfully, the stories in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion Villains mostly live up to their dark pedigree. Of course, Lando’s dedication is only one part of the formula. The writing captures Lando’s pure desire to help the people around him at any cost. It resonates deeply, because I’ve found myself saying very similar phrases in conversation. Like other reviewers have commented it really was a roller coaster with every episode, there was gripping drama with grit and comedy. Pak completely homes in on Lando’s deep-seated loyalty and affection for Cloud City in such an honest and elegant manner. This is the charismatic Lando we’ve all come to love, trying to cement the place that he holds dear. The opening page provides a beautifully nostalgic frame of Cloud City and quickly pivots to the Baron Administrator himself, making a dazzling smoke filled entrance holding a chest full of credits. Perhaps the best thing about Darth Vader 1 was that it was a perfect Sith lesson. ![]() I preface with all of this because I believe Pak and Buffagni manage to find this balance with Star Wars: Age of Rebellion – Lando Calrissian. As an anthology series, Age of Rebellion contributed a lot in a little space for each of the characters highlighted. There is a balancing act between revealing new information about the character, while respecting what already exists. We, the readers, know the character’s origins and where their eventual arc leads them. ![]() Knowing the events that come before and after the story, there is a familiarity and love that already exists. 1 is an inconsistent, but compelling, read that follows several supporting characters from the original Star Wars trilogy. There is always an intrigue when reading an interquel. Star Wars: Age Of Rebellion Special (2019) No. The violence is very similar to the movies - a lot of. Writer: Greg Pak / Artist: Matteo Buffagni / Marvel Comics Cloud City Blues The main characters are robin hood rebels, stealing from the empire to provide for poorer communities.
